1st time for everything.

This is a story about a girl who wore NIKES for the very first time and her adventures there after. I never owned a pair nor wore a pair of NIKES before (no lie, no exaggeration). My reasoning was simply because I knew, due to my addictive shopping tendencies and strict brand loyalty, that if I ever started I could never stop. And so around 16 I decided to just say no. Until last night.

Most anthropologists would explain how wearing NIKES symbolizes so many different factors from global power, to sweatshop labor, to mass media brainwashing. I think it’s easy to make such a statement as long as you don’t walk the streets of NYC everyday. With all this in mind, I began my social experiment and strapped on my new NIKES…

Our story begins with this young gentleman in Denver, Colorado: ANTHONY HULL.
This is THE Denver homie. He’s a good friend I met while producing SHOE SHINE 2007 and he is one hell of a VJ:

One day ANTHONY sent me a gift from our good friends at INS+ALLATION in Denver:

Little did he know, before he packaged up this little box of jewels, that he was about to present to me my first pair of NIKES ever. ever ever. I felt that since I received them with such a grand gesture that I could MAYBE break my prohibition and enter the life of a true SNEAKER HEAD.

But little did I know that my 1st time wearing NIKES would lead to several other 1st times:

1. 1ST TIME the new single, “THAT’S NOT IT” was sought out by a magazine! I was interviewed by ELLE of 21-7 MAGAZINE and she was wearing the same NIKES I was! Crazy right…

2. 1ST TIME going to Marquee (i know….i know).

And so the moral of this story is that there is a 1st time for everything. And all you can really do to prepare for those 1st times are research and risk it. xoxo
